Alex Molyneaux - Artist's Statement >
"I see my practice as making sense of living within, and being part of this world; whilst also clarifying or expressing an experience of this being. My work is a response, a system within a context. It can often be subtle, complex and specific all at the same time.
It is significant to highlight my use of photography in relation to my practice as a site specific sculptor. It is used primarily to see and get a sense of what we have done to alter our surroundings. I use the skills of a photographer to capture a site’s uniqueness – my photographs are more than just “witness statements”. The objects I go on to make, through their form and material construction methods further enhance the uniqueness of the chosen site. In general they are not temporary works but take on an architectural significance."
